NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A 50-year-old man was shot and killed during an armed robbery at Church & Son Market in North Nashville Sunday night.

Police said Darrell Wright was visiting his friend and owner of the market, 55-year-old Augustus Church, when two men entered the store just before 6 p.m. One was armed with a gun and the other was carrying a knife.

According to witnesses, the gunman fired as he entered the store, hitting Wright. He died on the scene. The robbers then fled on foot reportedly with less than $10 in cash.

Neighbors were shocked by the senseless crime.

"It don't(sic) make no sense to have a man working a store or with him in a store and get killed on a Sunday," said Gregory Pillow.

Police described the suspects as two black men in their late teens or early 20s. They are both approximately 6 feet tall.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME. Tips can also been sent to Crime Stoppers by texting the word "CASH" along with their message to 274637 (CRIMES) or online at www.nashvillecrimestoppers.com. Tipsters can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
