ATV Rider Injured In Crash With CSX Train

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – One person has been injured after a CSX train struck an all-terrain vehicle that was on the tracks in south Nashville.

The incident happened around 10:15 a.m. Monday on East Thompson Lane, just south of Old Glenrose Avenue. The crash happened at the railway crossing, and the ATV was then dragged for several hundred feet as the train came to a stop.

A mangled white ATV could be seen at the front of the train.

It was unclear if the ATV driver attempted to outrun the train, or if it was somehow stuck on the tracks. The crossing was equipped with warning lights and crossing gates.

One ambulance from the Nashville Fire Department was called to the scene and transported the driver to an area hospital. The extent of injuries and the victim's identity were not immediately available.

No one onboard the CSX train was injured.

Officers from the Metro Nashville Police Department were working to determine the exact cause of the crash. East Thompson Lane was closed while police conducted their investigation.
