Orlando Shaw Faces Judge On Child Support For 22 Kids

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Orlando Shaw, the man who fathered 22 children by 14 different woman, found himself before a juvenile court judge and attorneys for the state Wednesday morning.

"We have a problem on our hands. Too many mouths to feed," said Lisa Cowan, attorney for Child Support Services.

Shaw's case went viral after NewsChannel 5 first reported it two months ago. Since then, a Los Angeles agency started working on a reality show. It was something the court wanted to ask Shaw about.

"Have you signed a contract?" asked magistrate Scott Rosenberg.

"I signed a contract," testified Shaw.

He said nothing was certain yet about the show, but it's easy to see why the state is interested.

"I don't think a reality show is out of the question and that is the only hope these children have of any regular support," said Cowan.

For the first time we learned how much back child support Shaw owes for several of his children. Of the 16 on the docket, Shaw owes more than $300,000, and he hasn't paid anything in more than 18 months.

"You have more than just the children here. You have 22 and they are all asking for things," said magistrate Rosenberg.

The judge said he wasn't going to wait to see if the reality show ever happens before expecting to see changes from Shaw.

As a start, he ordered Shaw to begin paying each of his children $5 a week. He also told Shaw to find a job and ordered him to submit 15 job applications every week. If he falls short on any of these orders, the judge said he would face jail time.
