Police Identify Man Found Shot To Death In School Parking Lot

Posted: Updated:

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Police have released the identity of the man found shot to death in the parking lot of a Montgomery County high school.

The man was identified as 38-year-old Daniel Lamar Reed. His death was being treated as a homicide.

Police found Reed's body near Northwest High School at 800 Lafayette Road in Clarksville just before 6 a.m. Thursday. Police said he had been shot to death around 2 a.m.

Crime scene investigators responded to the scene, and set up a perimeter around the body as they worked to look for any clues into Reed's death.

Police said the shooting did not appear to have any involvement with school staff or students.

The high school remained open for classes, but re-routing of buses caused a half-hour delay for students at nearby Woodlawn, Minglewood and Liberty Elementary Schools.

"Our main concern was to reroute our buses and our parent traffic so it was not near the scene, so students wouldn't even see the scene at all," said Elise Shelton with Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools.

The nearby Vocational/JROTC building was closed for the day, and those students were moved to the main building of the high school.

Reed's body was expected to be taken to the medical examiner for more information on the cause of death.

Anyone with information about the shooting has been asked to call the Clarksville Police Department's homicide detectives at 931-648-0656. Anonymous tips can be taken at 931-645-TIPS (8477).

This was the second body found in Clarksville this week. In a seperate incident, the body of 37-year-old Diana Bronaugh was found in the woods in the Greenwood Cemetery area of Clarksville Tuesday night.
