NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Police have asked for help from the public to find the man wanted in a fatal house fire earlier this month.

The body of 52-year-old Alexander Ray was found in the basement of the home on McGavock Pike near Glenmeade Drive when the fire broke out around 6:30 a.m. on August 5. The Fire Marshal's Office and detectives from the Metro Nashville Police Department determined the fire was intentionally set.

They are now looking for Ray's stepson, 44-year-old Cecil Eugene Whited, who has been indicted in the murder.

Four others were inside the home when it went up in flames, but they escaped without injuries.

Fire officials found Ray's badly burned body in the basement where he slept.

The motive for the fire and homicide was still under investigation. Police did not say if Ray perished in the fire or if he was killed before the blaze was set.

Whited was believed to still be in the Nashville area. Anyone with information about his whereabouts should call Crime Stoppers at 615-74-CRIME (742-7463).
