Man Claims To Have Blacked Out Before Five Crashes, Say Police

Posted: Updated:

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - A man who caused a fiery crash at a Clarksville gas station last month and crashed a car into a home last week has been involved in five similar crashes over the past year.

Police said John Ward claimed to black out in all of the crashes due to a health issue.

On Tuesday, Ward was arrested and charged with reckless driving after he crashed a car into a home on Twelve Oaks Boulevard on Monday afternoon.

That crash came one month after he plowed into an Exxon gas station on Riverside Drive, causing a massive explosion at a gas pump that critically injured a man.

On August 18, 2012, police said he crossed into oncoming lanes on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard and crashed.

Then on April 7, he ran into a ditch on Warfield Boulevard. And one May 3, he veered across traffic on Old Russellville Pike, and crashed into a house.

In each incident, Ward said he blacked out.

The Clarksville Police department has put in a special request with the Department of Safety to review his driving record, and whether or not he should be allowed on the roads.
