Convicted Sex Offender Charged With Solicitation Of Minor

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A convicted sex offender was arrested Wednesday after police said he tried to make sexual advances toward an 8-year-old girl.

Police said 27-year-old Damien Burks made the advances at the girl from his car last week at the girl who was walking home from school on Park Avenue near 36th Avenue North.

Burks had been convicted in July of four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor after pornographic photos of children were found on a computer at his Winn Avenue residence. He received a ten year suspended sentence in that case. A probation violation warrant was issued against him today.

In addition to being charged with solicitation of a minor, Burks was also charged with probation violation and violating state law that forbids sex offenders from being within 1,000 feet of any public school, in this case Park Avenue Elementary, when children under the age of 18 are present, without a legitimate reason for being there.

Any parents who believe their children may have had contact with Burks were asked to call the police department's Sex Crimes Unit at (615)862-7540.
