Murfreesboro Car Towed In Repossession Mistake

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A Murfreesboro couple is trying to figure out why they woke up last Thursday morning to find their car missing from their front driveway, where it had been parked the night before.

When Jim and Debbie Matthews called Murfreesboro Police to report their car as stolen, they were informed it was not stolen at all – but repossessed by a bank in Texas.

That was a surprise to the couple, who had never taken out a loan for the car – purchasing it in full when they bought it earlier this year.  They currently hold the title to the vehicle.

Further investigation revealed a bank mix-up might be to blame.  The couple said the car's previous owner took a loan out for the car, but when the Matthews' purchased it, the bank where the loan was made with never found out, so when the bank stopped getting paid they sent a repossession company to the Matthews' driveway to tow it away.

The bank is working to fix the problem, and the Matthews expect to get their car back within a day or so.
