ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. – A man has been charged with attempted murder after investigators said he shot his own brother in Cheatham County.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said the shooting of 39-year-old Scotty Wayne Neisz early Wednesday morning remained under investigation.

Authorities said Neisz was shot several times by 35-year-old David Allen Neisz, Jr., of Kingston Springs, near the intersection of Petway Road and Harpeth Crossing in Ashland City around 4 a.m.

Scotty Neisz drove himself to Centennial/Tri-Star Medical Center in Ashland City for treatment and was later transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

David Neisz was taken into custody by the Cheatham County Sheriff's Office. He was also treated at Centennial/Tri-Star Medical Center for an injury to his hand.

David Neisz was charged with one count of Attempted First Degree Murder and one count of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

Investigators believe David Neisz was the primary aggressor; however, the shooting remained under investigation.

David Neisz Jr. was booked into the Cheatham County Jail with no bond.
