RECIPE # 5064 - APPLE PIE - Friday, August 30, 2013

3/4 c sugar

2 T all-purpose flour

1/2 t ground cinnamon

1/8 t ground nutmeg

6 c peeled and sliced apples (2 pounds)

Pastry for 2-crust pie

1 T unsalted butter

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. In a large bowl, stir together the sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add the apples and toss gently to coat. Spread the apple mixture in the pastry shell. Dot with the butter. Adjust the top pastry, sealing the edges. Cut slits in the top crust and cover the edge of the pie with a pie shield or aluminum foil. Bake 25 minutes. Remove the shield or foil and bake an additional 20 – 25 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. Cool completely on a wire rack before cutting and serving.
