NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Chapter of the American Red Cross has urged Nashville residents to be prepared for emergencies and natural disasters.

The Red Cross said having an emergency plan is an integral part of being prepared.

"Having a game plan in place is essential for all households so everyone knows what they should do when an emergency occurs," said Joel Sullivan, Regional CEO, Tennessee Volunteer Region. "National Preparedness Month is a perfect time for Nashville area residents to create or update their plan."

September officially marked the beginning of National Preparedness Month. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has sponsored the event since 2004.

The Red Cross recommended downloading their mobile app for more in-depth instructions on how to be prepared.
