MOUNT PLEASANT, Tenn. – One person was killed in a collision between a pick-up truck and a tanker truck in Maury County. Police identified the victim as 64-year-old David Jones from Hampshire, Tennessee.

The crash happened Tuesday morning at the intersection of U.S. Highway 43 and 1st Avenue in Mount Pleasant.

Jones was crossing U.S. Highway 43 on 1st Avenue in a black pick-up truck when he was struck on the driver's side by a southbound semi hauling a tanker. The pick-up was pushed into the median, across both northbound lanes and into the shoulder.

It appeared the semi had the right of way, but the exact cause of the crash was not released.

Several emergency response personnel responded to the scene, including the Mount Pleasant Police Department, Mount Pleasant Fire Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and crews from Maury Regional Medical Center.

At least three ambulances were at the crash site. It was not clear if anyone else sustained injuries.

Northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 43 were closed while investigators reconstructed the crash scene. Southbound lanes were being diverted onto the right shoulder.

Westbound traffic from 1st Avenue was being diverted to northbound U.S. Highway 43.

Officials with the Tennessee Department of Transportation said the roadway was reopened around 2:30 p.m.
