Mother, Boyfriend Indicted In 4-Month-Old's Death

Posted: Updated:

LAWRENCBURG, Tenn. – A mother and her boyfriend have been indicted in the death of a four-month-old baby in Lawrenceburg.

On August 30, the grand jury returned indictments against Joshua Bagwell and Meagan Forsythe for first degree murder and aggravated child abuse.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office found the four-month-old not breathing at a home on Brace Road in Lawrenceburg on December 8, 2012. The infant was initally found by Bagwell, who went to a relative's house next door for help and call 911.

The infant was taken to Crockett Hospital, where doctors found bruising on the unconscious child. The baby was taken by LifeFlight to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, where it was determined the child had serious brain damage. He never regained consciousness, and passed away four days later after being removed from life support.

An autopsy found the baby suffered from blunt force trauma, and doctors believe he had been injured days before being taken to the hospital.

Bagwell and Forsythe were held at the Lawrence County Detention Center on $50,000 bond each.

Investigators were also working with the Department of Children's Services because Forsythe had another child who was not present the day the infant was found unconscious.
