Officer Arrested On Drug Charges Recommended For Termination

Posted: Updated:

MURFREEBORO, Tenn. – An officer charged with trading a television for prescription drugs has been recommended for termination from the Murfreesboro Police Department.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested 43-year-old Andrew Messick and his wife 44-year-old Crystal Messick in July at a Walgreens parking lot off Memorial Boulevard.

Agents received information about the couple wanting to exchange a television for hydrocodone pills. They set up the exchange, and then took them into custody.

The couple was booked into the Rutherford County Jail and released on bond.

Andrew Messick was decommissioned and placed on administrative leave. He was a three-year veteran with the department. With the exception of a couple of minor traffic crashes with his patrol car, officials said his personnel file was clean.

He received a letter of commendation for helping the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office disarm a suicidal teenager two years ago.

During a hearing last week, the police chief recommended firing Messick. Murfreesboro's city manager will make a final decision on whether Messick should be removed from the force.
