Elderly Woman Dies From Injuries After Being Struck By SUV

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A 95-year-old woman who was struck by an SUV while she was walking along a sidewalk Thursday morning has died from her injuries.

Metro Police said Friday morning that Elisabeth Neuss passed away at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Officials said Neuss was walking on the sidewalk along Harding Pike near the intersection of Woodlan Drive just before 10 a.m. Thursday when a Cadillac Escalade pulling out of a bank parking lot struck her.

The driver, 59-year-old Richard Regen, Jr., told police he didn't see Neuss when he attempted to pull out into the street.

"She was walking down the sidewalk, so she wasn't in the road," said Sergeant Harold Burke with the Metro Nashville Police Department. "She was perfectly within her right to be walking on the sidewalk."

On Thursday, officials said charges were pending for Regen for failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian pending the outcome of their investigation. It was unclear if he would face more serious charges following Neuss' passing.
