COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. – The suspect wanted in a series of late night robberies at several Walmart locations throughout Middle Tennessee has been arrested in Hamilton County.

Officials said 23-year-old Jeremy Pettway broke into the cash registers at more than two dozen Walmart stores in Murfreesboro, Nashville, Tullahoma, Manchester, Chattanooga, Sevierville, Newport, and Hixson.

He was apparently a former employee who police said knew the system. Pettway was accused of using a hammer and screwdriver to open registers.

Police said Pettway targeted stores along the interstates. Most of the robberies happened late at night, but some happened during the day.

Pettway was reportedly attempting to breaking into a cash register at the Collegedale Walmart Wednesday when he was caught by police.

After taking him into custody for questioning, officials said Pettway admitted to 11 of the incidents, but thought it may have been closer to 32 robberies.
