Man Shows Up At Vanderbilt ER With Gunshot Wound

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A 25-year-old man showed up at Vanderbilt University Medical Center's emergency room with a gunshot wound overnight.

The victim told police he had gone to his brother's house in east Nashville, but his brother was not home. He then met up with a friend who lives nearby. While they were talking on S. 7th Street, the victim told police they were approached by a man with a handgun.

The gunman then opened fire on the man, who ran away. He was struck once in the buttocks area, and taken to Vanderbilt by private vehicle.

Police had responded to the scene around 10:30 p.m. after receiving a call of "shots fired," and found shell casings on the ground, but no victim. Just before 11 p.m., Vanderbilt called police to report that the victim had shown up at their ER.

The victim's injuries were not life-threatening. His identity was not immediately released.

The motive for the shooting remained under investigation. No arrests have been made.
