Tennessee State Fair Kicks Off Friday Night

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 107th annual Tennessee State Fair kicks off Friday night at the state Fairgrounds in south Nashville.

This year's theme is "Come Grow with Us." With more than 30 different rides on the midway and tons of food and competitions, this year's fair will showcase the culture of the entire state of Tennessee.

Animal owners worked all day Thursday to prepare them for different competitions, including but not limited to racing pigs, trick dog shows, and livestock shows.

"I think it's a great way for us to show case agriculture to the public. They do not know where their food and fiber comes from," said Charles Curtis with the Tennessee Farm Bureau.

On opening night, there will be two unique events fans won't want to miss. One is the inaugural Taste of Tennessee Craft Brewers Festival, which will be held on the infield of the Fairgrounds Speedway. It will showcase craft beer from the entire state of Tennessee, and will have food trucks and live music.

Additionally, Traditional Championship Wrestling will host Tennessee Takeover at the fairgrounds.

Tickets to both events also include admission to the fair.

On Saturday, admission to the fair will also get attendees a seat at the racetrack for Speedway Nashville Racing. Practice will be at noon, with the race starting at 6:10 p.m.

Gates open at 5 p.m., and the fair will close down at 10 p.m. Tickets cost $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens and children, and it's free for kids under two. For other information, go to www.tnstatefair.org.
