NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A jack-knifed tractor trailer has slowed down the afternoon commute for many drivers around Nashville.

The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. Thursday in a narrow stretch of Interstate 24 near the Interstate 40 junction on the southeast part of town.

Video from the Tennessee Department of Safety's SmartWay cameras showed the trailer stopped in the middle of the roadway and blocking parts of both westbound lanes just before the merge with I-40.

The semi rig itself was almost completely facing oncoming traffic in the right lane. The cause of the crash was not available, but rain and wet conditions could have contributed.

Traffic was moving by slowly on the left shoulder. Cars were backed up at least to the Harding Place exit.

At least one TDOT Incident Response vehicle and two police cruisers were on the scene.

The roadway was cleared by 6:30 p.m.

There were no reports of injuries.
