MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A Rutherford County woman was arrested after police said she falsely claimed her husband tried to kill her.

Detectives said Susan Davis orchestrated an elaborate hoax. They said it tied up valuable police resources for hours.

Davis exchanged text messages with domestic abuse detectives for much of the day, claiming her husband was being abusive.

"She put all the responding officers and detectives lives in danger," said Officer Kyle Evans, spokesperson for the Murfreesboro Police Department.

When Davis indicated to detectives that her husband threatened her life, officers immediately responded in force. They blocked off the road and surrounded her home with guns drawn.

When police officers knocked on the front door, they learned it was all a hoax.

"If you waste valuable resources and risk people's lives who are responding to help you than you are going to jail," said Evans.

Davis was facing a variety of charges, including phone harassment, threats, and filing a false report.

Police said Davis' husband was not even home at the time. He was at work in Nashville.

Officers said when they arrested Davis, she became combative and it took three officers to take her into custody.
