Red Kangaroos Make Debut At Nashville Zoo

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Seventeen red kangaroos are springing into action at the Nashville Zoo.

Zookeeper Kayce Hackett told The Tennessean about 1,000 visitors were expected Saturday, the opening day for the Kangaroo Kickabout exhibit.

The throngs will view the exhibit from a sidewalk that snakes its way through the 4,500-square-foot habitat, although they might have to dodge the animals lounging or bouncing in the pathway.

Hackett says though they haven't yet been on public view, many of the kangaroos have been at the zoo for more than a year, and some were hand-raised by Nashville zookeepers.

The kangaroos aren't aggressive toward humans. Kids and grown-ups alike can pet their plush, fluffy fur without fear.
