Bicycle Courier Service Delivers Demand in Nashville

Nashville, Tenn. -  A Nashville company will deliver everything from legal documents to lunch right to your door, and they do it all on two wheels.

Rush Bicycle Messengers is the city's only all-bicycle courier service, and the owner said the concept is catching on.

"The more congested the city gets, the more people who move here and so forth," said Dave Thienel, Owner of Rush Bicycle Messengers. "The quickest way to get from A to B is a bicycle."

Thienel said the company currently has 6 part time drivers, and delivers everything from court documents, to prescriptions, to groceries, to lunch orders.

"It's efficient," said Thienel.  "It's faster than a car, and we don't have to look for parking spaces or anything along those lines."

The company makes deliveries to most areas of Nashville.

Currently, one of their clients, Bongo Java Roasting Company, has been pleased with the outcome.

"It sounded too good to be true," said Derek Wolfe, the Wholesale Manager with Bongo Java Roasting Company. "It really ended up being easier than we ever thought it was going to be."

Drivers from Rush Bicycle Messengers currently pick up the Bongo Java coffee at the headquarters and deliver it to the company's various retail locations across the city.

Drivers haul sometimes hundreds of pounds worth of materials rain or shine.  They hook up a trailer to the back of their bike in order to get multiple orders out quickly.

"In Nashville it is becoming more and more prevalent," said Thienel. "It's the future of delivery."
