NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A concert to benefit The Contributor will be held on Wednesday night.

The concert will be held at Douglas Corner Cafe on 8th Avenue at 6 p.m.

Vernon Rust, a singer/songwriter who used to be homeless, is taking part in the benefit that seeks to raise money to help the cash-strapped paper stay afloat. While he never sold the newspaper, he said he understands the importance of keeping the paper alive.

"You're not just giving someone a dollar, you're giving dignity for one day and it really matters, it's a huge impact. I fear for these people. I've been there," he said.

Publishers of the Contributor said half of the non-profit organization's budget comes from donations, and lately that money has been slow to come in. The paper needs to raise $100,000 by Thanksgiving in order to keep operating. So far, they've only raised about $10,000.

The cover charge for the concert is $10. You can also make a donation through their website.
