Tennessee Has Some Of Lowest Premiums Under Health Care Overhaul

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Health care premiums for Tennesseans under the new health insurance markets set to launch next week are among some of the lowest in the country.

In 36 states, the federal government is taking the lead to cover uninsured residents.

Premiums for the average plan will be around $245 a month for Tennesseans under the Affordable Health Care Act. That is well below the national monthly average of $328.

The cheapest plan offered in our state would be $181 per month, the third-lowest in the country.

The premiums unveiled Tuesday don't include tax credits. The bottom line will depend on income, location, plan type, family size and tobacco use.

Coverage under new health insurance markets launches on Tuesday, October 1.
