GALLATIN, Tenn. (AP) - A pilot program in Sumner County in connecting language interpreters to the courtroom through videoconferencing.

According to a news release from the Administrative Office of the Courts, the first remote session was held for five cases this week.

The AOC launched the pilot project because there are so few credentialed court interpreters available in Tennessee. The agency is exploring how best to share those limited resources.

Funding for the pilot project comes from the Office of Criminal Justice Programs.

The project is expected to last one year, with continuous monitoring in the first three months and monthly monitoring after that.
