Mt. Juliet Launches First Fire Department

Posted: Updated:

MT. JULIET, Tenn. – The City of Mt. Juliet has prepared for the launch of its first fire department.

The new fire department announced it would open its doors, Monday, September 30. Officials said it would officially begin accepting call at 7 a.m.

In year's past, Mt. Juliet has relied on the county for fire emergencies, but a recent population growth forced city leaders to develop their own fire department.

Chief Eron Kinney, with the Mt. Juliet Fire Department and former player for the Tennessee Titans said he was looking forward to the new challenges.

"It's exciting the challenges and coming out of the ground with a brand new fire department," said Chief Kinney. "It's real exciting to be a part of that."

For the past several weeks, Chief Kinney and his crew have been knocking down flames, tugging on hoses, and conducting simulated rescue missions at the fire training academy in Lebanon.

Chief Kinney added that it was not easy work.

"It's very hot- it's strenuous," he said. "You've got to be in shape, but I love it and it's what I want to do."

In the last minutes of prepation for the opening, new equipment has been arriving, daily.

Chief Kinney said they were ready to begin serving the community.
