Jewelry Thieves Clear Out Murfreesboro Store

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The broken glass in a Murfreesboro jewelry store was slowly being replaced Tuesday after thieves smashed through the windows and glass cases shortly after midnight Monday morning.

The two robbers got away with thousands of dollars in jewelry and did even more in damage at the Platinum & Gold Jewelers in Murfreesboro and it only took them two minutes.

They used a large rental box-truck to block the entrance of the store. That truck was later found ditched on the side of the road.

Murfreesboro Police said it appears to be a very targeted and well-planned robbery.

Owner Charles Settle said he hadn't noticed anyone scoping out his store. He said even though his type of business can be a target, his has never had any sort of crime in the three-and-a-half years it's been open.

"I'm small business," he said. "I'm just trying to make it like anybody else. And somebody that thinks it's okay to steal from somebody - whether it be a big company or a small company - it's wrong. It's absolutely wrong. This is how I feed myself and a family. I've got people that work for me and their families. This is absurd. I can't believe how bold people are that they think it's okay to do something like this."

Settle said his store will likely reopen Wednesday, but will be upgrading his security system. The entire robbery was caught on his existing security system.

If you have any information about the robbery, call Murfreesboro Police.
