MT. JULIET, Tenn. – Three schools were placed on lockdown for just over an hour while police searched for a shoplifting suspect near Lowe's in Mt. Juliet.

Police were called out to The Paddocks shopping center around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday after reports of a shoplifting in progress.

They said 26-year-old Troy Adams and 23-year-old Leverites Lawson ran from Walmart with $250 worth of stolen merchandise in a shopping cart.

When they arrived on scene they were able to catch Adams near the Lowe's hardware store. Lawson fled the area.

Three schools were located near the incident.

Mt. Juliet Christian Academy, West Wilson Middle School and Stoner Creek Elementary were placed on lockdown as a safety precaution while officers searched for the suspect.

After about an hour of searching, investigators were able to identify Lawson as the suspect and determined he was no longer in the area near the schools.

The lockdown was lifted around 2:40 p.m.

Adams was booked into the Wilson County Jail on charges of theft of merchandise. He had a warrant out for his arrest in Davidson County for failure to appear.

Warrants were issued for Lawson's arrest on charges of theft of merchandise and evading arrest.
