HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. – Two suspects have been arrested and charged with attempted murder in Sumner County after a woman fell from a vehicle.

Detectives with the Hendersonville Police Department said 53-year-old Tina Shelton and 69-year-old William Groves were arrested Sunday morning in Cottonwood, Tennessee. Both have been charged in the incident.

Police said the two suspects were traveling with the victim northbound on State Route 386 Saturday night. Witnesses said a woman was thrown onto the road just before 11 p.m. Investigators said a domestic disturbance between the victim and a family member resulted in the victim being thrown from the moving vehicle.

According to police, witnesses said they saw the victim hanging from the side of the vehicle and fall on the roadside. They said the vehicle stopped and the suspects attempted to pull the victim back inside, before driving off.

The victim was transported by emergency medical services to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where police said she was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Shelton was charged with one count of first degree murder, one count of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, and domestic assault. Groves was charged with one count of accessory after the fact of attempted first degree murder, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, and reckless endangerment with a weapon.

Shelton was being held in lieu of $500,000. Groves bond was not available.

Both were expected to appear in General Sessions Court in Sumner County on December 11 at 9 a.m.
