Spring Hill Residents Worry Walmart Store Could Bring Traffic

SPRING HILL, Tenn. – A new Walmart has caused controversy among Spring Hill residents who worried the already congested highway through the middle of town would become busier.

The new Walmart has been slated to open October 16, and has already generated concern from residents and business owners alike, who are concerned about traffic on Highway 31.

There have been complaints about the traffic on the highway for years, especially as the area around Spring Hill has become more developed, and some worry a new Walmart store could add to that congestion.

"It gets really busy especially on the road right in front of the restaurant," said Jimmy Adamopoulos, who owns a pizzeria on Highway 31.

Spokesmen for Walmart said, even with the addition of a new traffic light along the highway, they do not expect their store to make the traffic any worse.

"I can tell you we worked very hard with the city to ensure the traffic flow was minimal as far as any type of interruption," said Martin Padgett, the new Walmart store manager.

The Walmart's first official day open to the public will be Wednesday after a ribbon cutting at 7:30 a.m.
