CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Austin Peay defensive tackle Malcolm Goines has been ruled ineligible for the rest of the season after an internal audit revealed he didn't meet all NCAA transfer requirements.
Austiin Peay announced Friday the NCAA had ruled Goines ineligible.
In a release announcing the decision, Austin Peay officials said Goines shouldn't have been eligible to play in 2012 after he transferred from Grand Rapids Community College because a developmental math class inadvertently was certified as a transferable credit. Without the certified class, Goines didn't meet all the NCAA transfer requirements to be eligible to play immediately.
Goines played all 11 games for Austin Peay last season. He played Austin Peay's first two games this season before the error was discovered. Austin Peay reported the discrepancy to the NCAA.
