SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. – A Nashville man wanted in connection with the murder of a Springfield man has been taken into custody.

Springfield Police along with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation took 21-year-old Tevin "Turk" Harris into custody around 12:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Information from Crime Stoppers and through the TBI led police to a home on Grace Street in Springfield. The house was sealed off just after midnight, and two people were removed.

Tear gas was deployed when Harris barricaded himself inside the basement and refused to surrender. Harris exited the house, and was taken into custody without further incident.

Harris was booked into the Robertson County Jail. He was charged with first degree murder in connection to the shooting death of 27-year-old Thomas D. Smith, who was found with with a gunshot wound on Leota Street around 11:20 p.m. Sunday.

Witnesses on the scene told police that Smith and Harris had gotten into an argument, and Harris shot Smith.

Harris had already left the scene in a white, 4-door Kia when police arrived. The Kia was believed to belong to his girlfriend.

Smith was taken to NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield, where he died from his injuries.

Police said the investigation into Smith's murder was ongoing. Harris had been added to the TBI's Top Ten Most Wanted List only hours before his capture.

Harris was also wanted for an unrelated charge of Aggravated Assault.
