MT. PLEASANT, Tenn. - The search is on for a man believed to have shot a man in the head, nearly killing him. Mt. Pleasant Police said after weeks of investigating, they've identified the shooter and want to bring him into custody.

Police are looking for Kevin Eugene Cooper, who is wanted for attempted homicide.

"This is not his first time to be involved in a shooting, and we consider him to be armed and dangerous," said Mt. Pleasant Police Chief Tommy Goetz.

Goetz said Cooper shot Donte Yokley back in September, while Yokley was walking along South Port Road with his girlfriend.

"They had stopped when apparently Mr. Cooper came out of the dark and walked up behind Mr. Yokeley and shot him behind the right ear," said Goetz.

Yokley survived, but determining what made him a target is still under investigation.

"He's doing good and he's in good spirits and a very, very lucky man to be alive," said Goetz. "I'm going to leave it as a domestic issue. I think the media labels that as a triangle love affair gone awry."

While the exact motive is still unclear, police said the importance of bringing Cooper into custody is evident.

"We've reached out to law enforcement in the area as far away as Memphis, where he has local ties and we want him picked up, we want him picked up fast in a hurry," said Goetz. "We want it done without him being injured and we certainly want it done without law enforcement and the community where he's at being injured."

Cooper has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2005 for aggravated assaults and probation violations. Officials don't believe Cooper is still in the area, but say it is not advised anyone approach him as he is considered armed and dangerous.
