Vanderbilt's Kirkland Hall Reopens After Lockdown

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The main administration building at Vanderbilt University has reopened after a brief scare because of a suspicious envelope.

Around 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, a community service officer making rounds noticed an envelope taped to the door at Kirkland Hall. A handwritten message on the envelope raised suspicions, and the building was evacuated and placed on lockdown.

Canine units swept the building, and found no threat. Metro's Hazmat team removed the envelope, and found it also did not pose a threat.

The building reopened shortly after 9:30 a.m.

An investigation was underway to determine who was responsible.
