Police: Man Punched Officer During Domestic Violence Call

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A Metro Police officer became a victim while responding to a domestic call on Sunday.

When officers arrived at the home on Venus Drive, the victim told them 26-year-old Gency Cazeres-Mendez had already destroyed a cell phone as the she tried to call police.

She said he had strangled her to the point where she almost passed out and threw a beer can at her, leaving a visible mark. The victim's young children were present during the whole incident.

When police tried to arrest him, they said he jumped out of a window and took off running. Once officers took him into custody, he punched and spit on a police officer.

Police said the victim had an order of protection against Cazeres-Mendez that protected her and her children.

Cazeres-Mendez was booked on 11 charges, including aggravated assault, evading and resisting arrest, as well as violating an order of protection. He was booked on $100,000 bond.
