Suspect Arrested In Rutherford Co. Theft Ring

Posted: Updated:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A man has been arrested in connection with what investigators are calling one of the largest theft rings in Rutherford County.

Police said more than $250,000 worth of stolen property was recovered Wednesday during a search of a home in the Kitrell Community.

Officials with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said 36-year-old James Allen Presley has been arrested and charged with theft over $60,000, two counts of theft between $1,000 and $10,000, and violation of probation.

Sheriff Robert Arnold said it was one of the largest theft rings in Rutherford County in recent history. He also added the stolen items were from surrounding counties.

Detectives said they recovered skid loaders valued at about $65,000 each, farm tractors, riding lawn mowers, four-wheelers, a tiller and an air compressor. They expected to recover additional property within the next few days.

"Our No. 1 goal is to get the property back to the citizens," Sheriff Arnold said.

Officials said the investigation started during the summer where detectives learned suspects allegedly stole property from Rutherford, Cannon, Wilson, Williamson and Coffee counties and stored the stolen items in Rutherford County.

Sheriff Arnold said more property was expected to be recovered and more arrests may be made in the case.
