Police Looking For Theft Ring Targeting Governors Square Mall

Posted: Updated:

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. A surveillance camera caught a group of women stealing clothes from a store inside Governors Square Mall. The video, released by Clarksville Police, show the women acting like they're shopping until one-by-one they pick up items and stuff them into purses or bags from other stores.

Officer Natalie Hall said detectives believe eight women recruited two younger people to help them target many stores at Governor Square Mall.

"It was helpful to have multiple hands involved so they could get more items," Hall said. "They're training others to help them to watch for them. It seems like they may be younger."

Detectives said the women had their younger helpers distract or block the view of store employees or use tools to break and discard of security sensors before walking merchandise out the door.

"They've got the tools. It looks like they understand the process that they're doing. It does seem like it's an organized ring of women," she said.

Police aren't sure if the group is from Clarksville or drives in from somewhere else. Anyone who can identify the women in the video or pictures should call Clarksville CrimeStoppers at (931) 645-TIPS (8477).
