TDOT: Traffic To Shift On I-40 In Wilson Co.

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Construction crews have begun work on a project which would shift traffic along Interstate 40 in Wilson County.

Officials with the Tennessee Department of Transportation said crews began working Friday along I-40 eastbound at Mt. Juliet Road. They said it could take several days to completely shift the traffic. The spilt would only affect eastbound traffic near the work zone.

TDOT said the plan is for one lane to move to the right of the work zone and two lanes move to the left.

It would be in effect for about two weeks and then the traffic will shift again. They said it was all part of an effort to help crews widen and lower the road so large vehicles can go under Mt. Juliet Road.

Deanna Lambert, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Department of Transportation, said the temporary traffic pattern would continue for about two weeks. The shift was also expected to include alternating lane closures in both directions from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through next Wednesday morning.

Officials said the project marks TDOT's largest design, building project to date.

The $55 million project was expected to be completed in December.
