Rutherford Academy Evacuated After Gas Line Rupture

Posted: Updated:

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A school in Murfreesboro was evacuated Tuesday afternoon after a gas line rupture.

Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue responded to Rutherford Academy on Southgate Boulevard just after 12:30 p.m.

Officials said a backhoe service was digging 20 feet away from the building when it struck the gas line, rupturing it.

Assistant Chief Kaye Jernigan said it was unknown if it was a high pressure line.

Children and staff of Rutherford Academy were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Atmos Energy responded to the scene to repair the leak.
