Man Charged With Arson For Setting Tree On Fire Near Apartments

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man was charged with aggravated arson for allegedly starting a fire that could have put hundreds of apartments in danger.

A police officer reported seeing 41-year-old Mark Mitchell pouring liquid from a red gasoline container on a tree in the 500 block of Gay Street. Mitchell then allegedly set it on fire.

The cop was able to get it under control before it spread.

The tree was near the parking garage of the Capitol Towers. The property manager told police that had this property been set on fire it would have affected more than 300 residents.

Mitchell was arrested just before 11 p.m. Sunday. He was charged with aggravated arson.
