Escaped Franklin Felon In Custody

Posted: Updated:

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – A felony suspect who fled twice from police Tuesday was taken back into custody by Franklin police.

On October 31, police said the suspect, 26-year-old James Marcqueza, went to a Cool Springs area motel to meet a Craigslist seller who was selling a smartphone. During that meeting, the suspect grabbed the phone from the victim and dragged the victim through the parking lot by the getaway car. The victim suffered minor injuries.

Detectives arranged an undercover buy-back of the stolen phone from Marcqueza after he posted it for resale on Craigslist. After meeting with the undercover police, Marcqueza fled on foot, but after a brief pursuit was taken into custody.

After his arrest, Marcqueza was transported to Williamson Medical Center due to complaints of difficulty breathing. During his hospital visit, the suspect slipped out of his handcuffs and took off. Officers established a perimeter and found Marcqueza 20 minutes later after he emerged from the wood line on Edward Curd Lane near Liberty Pike.

Originally wanted for Felony Theft and Aggravated Assault, Marcqueza is now facing additional charges of Drug Possession, Resisting Arrest, and Escape. He was held on a $30,500 bond.
