Stars, Fans Converge On Downtown For CMA Awards

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Country music stars and fans alike will converge on downtown Nashville Wednesday for country music's biggest night.

The 47th Country Music Association Awards will take center stage at Bridgestone Arena. Many of the biggest names in the business said they wait all year for the CMAs

All five nominees for top honor entertainer of the year – Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton and George Strait - will perform on the show this year.

"It's kind of the end of the year--everybody's been working hard all year. The CMA's kind of tell you ‘let's see how our year is.' Let's get together and talk about all the good times and the bad times. So, it's a big community," said Bryan.

Two-time CMA Entertainer of the Year Swift will perform her hit single "Red" with an all-star band featuring Vince Gill and Alison Krauss. Zac Brown Band will take the stage with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, and reigning CMA New Artist of the Year Hunter Hayes will perform with Jason Mraz.

Other performers include Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, along with Miranda Lambert and Little Big Town. Lambert and her husband, Shelton, have five nominations each, one behind top nominees Swift and Kacey Musgraves.

Strait will join Alan Jackson to pay tribute to the late George Jones. They are the two top nominees in CMA history.

Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley will host the award show for the sixth year in a row.

"I remember watching them as a kid, you know. So the fact that I get to come here, and I get to host, and I am nominated, I mean it's all positive, it's all good stuff, it's all a blessing," Underwood said.

Tickets for the show have sold out, marking it the fifth year in a row they have sold out in advance.

The show kicks off at 7 p.m. at Bridgestone Arena. NewsChannel 5 will have live coverage from the red carpet starting at 4 p.m.
