Man Cites Race In Death Threat To Woman At ATM

NASHVILLE, Tenn. A Nashville woman, who asked that her identity be withheld, said a man appeared out of nowhere last month and threatened to kill her.

"That's a face I'll never forget," she said Wednesday. "That man is scary. That's a scary man."

According to court documents, the woman pulled up to the Ascend Federal Credit Union at 2600 Elm Hill Pike to the use the ATM on October 13. That's when he appeared.

"As I got to step up on the step this white gentleman said 'I would let you go first, but y'all black people think y'all rule the world. And I'm a racist and I'm going to kill [your] a**,'" she recalled. "The only thing I said was 'sir I'm not scared of you. You're not going to do anything to me.'"

She said she instantly knew he was going to be a problem and kept coming towards her while she moved back. She made it back to car and was able to write down his tag number.

"He said 'I hope you got that information right.' I said 'I did, sir.' He said, 'like I said, I'm a [expletive] racist and I'll kill your [expletive] a**,'" he said.

It's what led police to 55-year-old Michael England, who was charged with assault.

Court documents also show England was also charged with assault in May 2013. He apparently became enraged while driving behind a woman on Bell Road and followed her to a red light. That's where he got so mad he jumped out of his car, ran up to hers, cussed at her, spit on her and then got into a tug-a-war with her door before slamming it on her knee.

This time the victim is trying to remember what would have set England off, possibly her parking across multiple spaces instead of one in the empty parking lot.

Whatever it was she worries he's out there and could attack someone else.

"He could harm somebody or he could cause somebody to hurt him," she said.

Attempts to reach England Wednesday were unsuccessful. He's due in court early next month.
