Franklin Couple Comes Home To Find It On Fire

Posted: Updated:

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – A Franklin couple came home Wednesday night to find their home engulfed in flames.

Firefighters were called to the home on Oakwood Drive in Franklin around 7 p.m. The roof was engulfed with flamed when they arrived on scene.

The couple who lived in the home was at choir practice when the fire broke out, and came home around 8 p.m. It took firefighters about three hours to get the fire under control.

Firefighters believe it started in the attic, and then burned out of control. They said that put them at a disadvantage to fight the blaze from the beginning.

"Typically access to the attic is a rough, particular point when we're tyring to make access into the attic. Gotta make entry into the house, find the attic access, (and) then get up into there before it spreads throughout the entire roof," said Williamson County Fire Coordinator Jay Bonson.

The home was destroyed. The cause of the fire was still under investigation.

The Red Cross assisted the family in finding a place to stay.
