Vanderbilt Children’s Opens After-Hour Clinics

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee families who need medical care for their children after their doctor's offices close for the day now have a new option.

Vanderbilt Children's Hospital is opening several after-hours clinics around the area.  The newest branch is in Hendersonville.

The facility on New Shackle Island Road features four exam rooms and a treatment room.  The clinic is staffed by Vanderbilt board-certified pediatricians, nurses and medical assistants.

It is open to patients ages 0-18 and no appointment is necessary. To ensure care stays consistent and current, the child's regular pediatrician will be sent a report about the visit the same evening.

"A lot of illnesses and injuries occur or get worse after hours," said Dr. Jill Obremskey, the Medical Director of the Hendersonville clinic. "Not all pediatricians are able to hold later hours, so this is another option for families that could save them a trip to the emergency room."

Another after-hours clinic is located in Mt. Juliet.  A third location is planned soon in Spring Hill.  Doctors said the concept is catching on.

"Lot of families have said, ‘we are so happy you opened,'" said Dr. Mary Kay Bartek, a pediatrician who has worked in both the Mt. Juliet and Hendersonville locations.  "I think it is convenient for families to have somewhere to go on weekends or in the evenings when their pediatrician's office is closed."

During the day, the space will be used as an outpatient clinic by other Vanderbilt pediatric specialties.

The after-hours clinic will be open seven days a week, including holidays. The hours are Monday-Friday, 6 p.m. - 9:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 12:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
