Music Program Launching To Help Veterans

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A new resource for Tennessee veterans struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder has a distinct Nashville flair.

Guitars4Vets is preparing to launch in Nashville. The non-profit gives veterans their own guitar and teaches them to play as a form of therapy.

The organization is in 15 states, and soon will make it 16 when it begins in Nashville in a few weeks.

The group doesn't expect to create country stars, but just a form of musical escape.

"We're not trying to create virtuosos," said national executive director Eric Weinstein. "If a vet only learns to play a few chords or a few notes, that's fine. We're trying to provide folks a tool to help express themselves, to manage emotions, to feel less isolated and to feel more a part of a community."

Guitars4Vets hopes to launch in Nashville in the coming weeks.
