NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A former Metro Police Sergeant has been charged in connection with the misappropriation of funds at a local recreation center.

John Patton surrendered Wednesday at the Metropolitan Justice Center on a Davidson County grand jury indictment charging him with one count of felony theft.

Police said misappropriated approximately $20,000 from UNA Recreation Center, Inc., where he volunteered in a leadership position for many years.

The 59-year-old retired in May from a 36-year career with the police department in the midst of both criminal and administrative investigations into the UNA matter.

Patton's bond was set at $20,000.
