NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man was charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault after he allegedly held his girlfriend against her will Wednesday morning and physically attacked her.

The situation began around 12:30 p.m. at Andrew Jackson Courts on Blank Street. Metro officers and SWAT responded after the victim managed to escape the apartment and contacted police.

The victim told police that convicted felon Kenneth Blackwell held her hostage, and repeatedly punched her in the face and choked her, causing serious injury to her face.

According to officials, Blackwell was outside the apartment looking for his girlfriend when officers arrived. That's when he ran back inside the apartment. After approximately two hours, Blackwell was taken into custody. A handgun was recovered from inside the apartment.

Blackwell was convicted of two counts of aggravated assault and strangulation against another woman in September 2012. He received two, four-year suspended sentences.
