Vacant Home Destroyed By Fire Near Percy Priest Lake

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - An intense fire destroyed a vacant home late Wednesday in the Percy Priest Lake area.

Heavy smoke and flames were pouring from the home on the 2400 block of Smith Springs Road when fire crews got on the scene around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Once firefighters had it under control they continued spraying the house with water, making sure the all the hot spots were completely out.

Witnesses told firefighters the home had been vacant for a while but the electricity was still on, which created a hazard for firefighters.

"Anytime electrical power source coming into a house and it's been cut down or knocked down due to the fire you have safety issues with firefighters being on that side and being electrocuted," said Chuck Hoover with the Nashville Fire Department.

Firefighters had a safety officer on that side of the house to keep everyone away from that area. Nashville Electric Service responded to the scene to cut the power.

The fire marshal will be back at the scene on Thursday to determine the cause.
