Six Teens In Custody For Attempted Robbery, Shooting

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Six teenagers were arrested in an apparent robbery attempt that left a 23-year-old robbery victim injured and a 16-year-old alleged robbery participant in critical condition.

Police were called to a convenience market on Eagle View Boulevard where Jamarrius Kelly had driven following the shooting around 12:45 a.m. Friday.

Kelly told police he had been shot while fleeing a robbery attempt on Bridgecrest Drive. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was treated and released for a gunshot wound to his back.

Police went to the shooting scene, and found Shatoria Bitton wounded in the front yard of a home. She was apparently shot by an errant round during the robbery attempt. She was last listed in critical condition at Vanderbilt.

Detectives learned that Kelly had been out that night with 15-year-old Jerica Taylor, who he believed to be a young adult. When he drove her to her home on Bridgecrest Drive, the attempted robbery occurred and shots were fired.

Later, police went to Taylor's apartment and took her into custody along with her twin brother Joshua, 19-year-old Jacob Bryant, and 18-year-old Braze Roland Rucker. Police also recovered a gun from the apartment.

Around the same time, police learned a red or maroon Ford Taurus was involved in the crime. Officers located it at the dead end of Bridgecrest Drive, and took Jacon Bryant's 16-year-old brother Marvin into custody. Another suspect, 19-year-old Sean Michael Lynch, fled the vehicle on foot and was later taken into custody when he exited a wooded area onto Pebble Creek Drive.

A semi-automatic pistol was found underneath the car.

All six were taken back to the South Precinct for interviews, where Bitton was found to have been involved. Police said all but Rucker implicated they were in on the plot to rob Kelly.

Jerica and Joshua Taylor along with Marvin Bryant were charged with especially aggravated robbery and held at juvenile detention.

Lynch was charged with two counts of attempted murder, especially aggravated robbery, evading arrest and probation violation. His bond was set at $1.16 million.

Rucker, was charged with two counts of attempted criminal homicide and one count of especially aggravated robbery. Bond was set at $1.15 million.

Bryant was charged with attempted criminal homicide and one count of aggravated robbery. His bond was set at $150,000.

It was unclear what, if any, charges Bitton would face once she recovers from her wounds.
